Health at any size - quality of life

I am passionate about health at any size, but every day I see people like me who are pressured to fit in our culture. When we spend time with friends and colleagues there is an unspoken pressure to eat, drink and do what others do and we usually comply just to fit in. But this lifestyle is not suitable for all of us; not everyone can maintain a slim figure on our diet.

Let me explain. We are not all fortunate to have a body which does not gain weight when we eat processed foods, drink regularly and not exercise. I had to accept that my body is not built for the western culture in which I live. The average diet is not healthy for me.

At first, it was hard for me to watch those who look slim and healthy eat the foods I craved. Over time, I lost the desire for many of these foods. I no longer miss the foggy brain, aching joints, or painful tummy which came with my old lifestyle. All these symptoms were the result of inflammation caused by my unsuitable way of living.

So, if you are overweight or obese, suffer from aching joints, painful or bloated tummy and foggy thinking, look at what you are eating and your lifestyle. It’s not that you are doing wrong, but that you have been trying to fit in. The western style of eating and being is not good for you. Going out with friends is fun. Eating out regularly consuming foods high in unhealthy fats and carbohydrates seems like a good idea. But there is a consequence. Your body is not at its best on this diet, nor will it be healthy in the long run.

I am not asking you to do as I am doing, but to make small changes which you can maintain in the long term. Because it’s not about longevity, it is about healthy aging. It is about quality of life.
